The Dave Burke Memorial Tournament in Scranton, PA marked the debut of the Lehigh Valley Road Cones, a newly formed team, consisting of primarily T2 skaters. On the opening night of the tournament, the Road Cones scored their first goal 10 seconds into the game. In a hard fought battle, the game was tied late into the third period. A goal near the end of the third was more then the team could overcome in it’s first loss of the tournament. The second game was at 7:45 AM on Saturday morning against the T1 “Average” Joes. The team knew this game was going to be quite the challenge, but none the less came up with a plan. Sacrificing themselves they kept the T1 skaters at Whistles well into the morning and ensured the beer and shots kept coming. The plan may have just worked if the Road Cones could have found a way to muster more then three shots. The nine to zip beating marked the second loss in the tournament. The final game was on Saturday evening with a remote chance to the playoffs still looming. In a very physical game, again the Road Cones held a one goal lead into the third period. A late goal in the third period tied the game and another goal in overtime gave the Road Cones their third and final loss in the tournament. Congratulations to the T1 “Average” Joes, who proved to be a bit more then average in the C division, for their Divisional win at the tournament. For more information about the Road Cones, please contact the Team Captain, Sam DeAngelo. Congratulations Cheddar Spring 2008 GHL T2 Champions
In a hard fought battle, which included a tying goal by Cheddar at the end of the third period with 0.0 seconds on the clock, along with a period of overtime and a sudden death shoot-out Cheddar narrowly beat out Bleu and clinch the GHL T2 Geezer Cup. Bleu Cheese was a fierce competitor in this game as they have been for the entire season. Earlier on Sunday fourth place Feta found a way to beat out third place Swiss in Father Jay’s last game in the GHL. And last, but not least, congratulations to Parmesan who beat out Provolone in the Urinal Cup on Saturday night. 2008 Fathers of Time Charity Tournament - T2 Division
Will the FoT T2 division championship game be any predication of things to come this November... will McCain beat Clinton... or did the stacked team with the hot goalie just have their moment in the sun? Thank to everyone that volunteered their time and/or items to the charity! Thank to Jim V and his family for the tireless efforts providing everyone with wonderful food and ice-cold beer throughout the tournament. Thank you Andy K arranging to have a chiropractor come out and help mend our tired and sore muscles. Thank you Steph E for amazing wood carving, Kathy S for the beautiful quilt, Shawn G for all plethora of Miller merchandise including a loaded golf bag and bar mirror, Nick for the front row IronPig tickets, John S for the Home Depot Gift Card, Jay F for the spiffy shoulder pads! Thank you for the countless numbers of T2 skaters that helped out as needed making the Tournament run smoothly and playing/donating money to make this charity event a success!
All monies raised by the tournament went to benefit Joshua and Joy: A boy named Joshua. Due to the great participation and donations from such a large group as ours, we will be able to do a little better than a mattress. Joshua Scoble will receive a full remote control bed with the therapeutic mattress that his parents had suggested. We wish young Joshua the best.
